Asian disasters

As of the moment the death toll of the killer tsunami brought by the 9.0 intensity earthquake in Indonesia has reached 116,000. Looks like Asia has its fair share of tragedies and disasters for the year 2004. The tsunami has killed more than 80,000 in Indonesia with deaths also recorded in Thailand, Malaysia, Burma, Bangladesh, India, Maldives and Sri Lanka.

The Philippines has just recovered from a very strong typhoon in the North as well as landslides in the South. In the middle of the year, Japan was whacked by typhoon Tokage, the strongest in a decade that killed over 60 people with packed winds of about 229 km/h. Mindulle ravaged southern Taiwan in July that killed 29 people.
